The Chariot Tarot Card

The Chariot
Tarot Card Number 7 of the Major Arcana
An erect and princely figure in the chariot carries a drawn sword. On the shoulders of this victorious hero are supposed to be the Urim and Thummim. He has abolished captivity, answered the sphinx, and his conquest is in all areas: in the mind, in science, in progress, in certain trials of initiation. He is above all things triumph in the mind.

However, the question of the sphinx was concerned with a mystery of nature. The areas of conquest relate to the external and not to himself. The liberation that he provides could leave him in the bondage of logic. The tests of initiation are physical. And, if he came to the pillars of the temple between which the High Priestess is seated, he could not open the scroll called Tora, nor if she questioned him could he answer. He is not hereditary royalty and he is not priesthood.
The Chariot card represents help and foresight but also war, triumph, presumption, vengeance, and trouble.
