Tarot Card Symbolism

The Fool Tarot Card

The Fool
Tarot Card Number 0 of the Major Arcana
With a light step, as if the earth and its restrictions had little power to restrain him, a young man in beautiful clothes pauses at the brink of a precipice among the great heights of the world; he surveys the expanse of the sky above him instead of the earth below. His act of eager walking is indicated, even though he is stationary in this picture but his dog is still bounding behind him.

The edge where he stands holds no terror for him, as though angels were waiting to catch him if he decided to leap. His face is full of intelligence and expectant dream. He has a rose in one hand and in the other a costly wand, from which is suspended, over the right shoulder, a curiously embroidered wallet. He is a prince of some other world on his travels through this one. In the crisp morning air, the sun shines behind him. He is the spirit in search of experience but he knows where he came from, where he is going, and how he will return – by another path – after many days.
The Fool symbolizes equity, rightness, and fairness. He also represents the triumph of the deserving side in law.
