The Japanese style of tattooing just edges out the black and grey style when it comes to the popularity of tattoo styles. Of course, black and grey might also cover such favorites as portraits and fine-line work and Japanese, to some people, might mean a kanji symbol. In general, I use the word Polynesian (or Polynesian inspired) for the tribal tattoo style since there is no "tribe" per se. (Percentages don't tally due to rounding error.)
